Project Overview

Breadin' is a concept application, targeting primarily young adults to assist in the transition from a teenager to becoming an adult, including responsibilities, assistance and how-to's on topics that schools, or sometimes parents never teach.

Workflow

Identifying the Problem Statement

From verbal surveys, we interviewed a good number of people on whether they feel ready for living an adult life, that of which a majority replies that they don't feel very ready for adulthood. In some cases, even adults feedback that such an app would benefit them too.

Therefore, the problem statement we derived for this project would be as follow:

"How might we motivate young adults aged 18-25 to learn and utilise adulting skills to increase their confidence?"

Understanding the competition

Before creating the app, we wanted to understand what the app we'd need to make should contain and the similar content media already on the market.

On various social media platforms exist content creators who focus on life hacks or maybe knowledge that we should have learnt but never got to. Platforms would include YouTube, TikTok and even WikiHow sometimes, covering short-form, long-form and article-based content.

From the research on competitors / creators who use platforms with the same goal in mind, the conclusion would result in us creating a hybrid app, one which can contain short-form, long-form and article-based content.

What does the app offer?

Adulting comes with a variety of issues, some unknown to adults until it is formally addressed as a topic. Based on popular topics from the algorithm, we've narrowed it down to the following topics.

Financal Management

Financial decisions are the most important decisions of our lives, from eating good on meals to stretching our dollars, it's important for young adults to learn the importance of money, finances and tax. The app includes an in-built spendings tracker to help users collate their spendings in one single app, filtering spendings on "wants" vs "needs". The app will also recommend where expenses could be cut in the "wants" department.

Mental Check-ins

As young adults start taking on more responsibilities, the weight of being an adult may be overwhelming. Having mental check-ins and management in this app allows users to also better manage and understand what they feel, how to deal with it and possibly interact with the community that forms.

Knowledge expansion

Generally, this follows the same topics from the aforementioned topics, with the priorities of educating users during their free time. The purpose of this feature is to possibly omit the usage of social media platforms like Instagram or TikTok and is purely educational.
